This bit is applicable to all Panamera models. This four-door sedan is not only fast, but it can be used to run short errands without using any gasoline. All the features in question also apply to Tesla’s Model S. However, Tesla comes as a fully electric car. It means that drivers would be required to look for a charger at some point. The Panamera E-Hybrid falls under the plug-in hybrid electric car category. Just like other plug-ins, the model comes with a plug-in battery that is rechargeable. Porsche’s Panamera underwent a full redesigning for the year 2017, with the launch of a Turbo and all-gas 4S models. So, the Panamera model in question is E-Hybrid’s second generation. The new model not only adopts a shapelier body of the Panamera, but it also has gas-electric powertrains that combine a gas engine that is V-6 turbocharged with an electric motor. The electromotive capacity of the battery is 50% more with its size or weight being virtually the same. The torque-converter is displaced by a new transmission that is eight-speed and dual-clutch. The hybrid strategy of the Panamera was coined from the 918 Spyder.

In the hybrid mode, acceleration is enabled by the electric motor. When the car sets off, it is always in E-power mode, especially when the battery has a charge. For optimal efficiency, the Hybrid-Auto alternates automatically between the gas and electric propulsion. The E-Hold mode is important in conserving a charge that is to be used later. The E-Charge mode comes to play when the gas engine is used for recharging the battery as the car moves. According to Porsche, the model’s electric range at full charge is 31 miles. Statistics from a different Panamera driven previously indicates a range of 42 miles when driven at an average of 7.6 liters per 62 miles, which leaves a remainder of 8.7 miles electric range. Panamera’s E-Hybrid will be available in international markets around the middle of this year. This is clearly a great investment since it is a green car that is environmentally friendly. It also promises to deliver a striking combination of speed, space, as well as potential frugality. The styling of this model has changed from the original model. America Records the Best Plug-in Car Sales

The first plug-in car was introduced in the United States six year ago and since their introduction, the 2016 sales were the highest. At the top of the list of the achievements, plug-in electric car sales totaled 157,181 last year. This was an all-time high, a figure that went up by 37.6% from 2015s sales that were 114,248. Sales for 2014 were 123,347, 24.7% less than the 2016 sales. The previous highest sales records had been those of 2014. Hence, 157,181 is such a healthy number to add to 570,187 cumulative total number of plug-in electric cars sold in the United States since 2008.

Monthly Breakdown

Monthly analysis shows that the strong results were largely contributed by December sales. The month recorded an all-time highest of 23,288 plug-in electric car sales. This was up from the former record held by September 2016 of 16,069 sales. Consequently, the market share for 2016 rose to 0.90%, with battery electric comprising of 0.48% and plug-in hybrids contributing to 0.42%. This was a huge improvement from the year 2015 where the market share for plug-in electric vehicle was 0.66% and 0.75% in 2014. As predicted, the market share for December 2016 hit the highest record of 1.39%. Plug-in hybrid comprised of 0.78%, while the battery electrics contributed to 0.61%. September, the prior-record month had 1.12% market share for plug-in electric vehicles.

What’s Selling?

Regarding the best sellers, Tesla’s Model S was at the top of the list for a second consecutive year. There were 29,156 units of Model S delivered, with about 5,300 accounting for December only. The model outdid the revamped Chevrolet Volt, whose December sales were 3,691 adding up to a total of 24,739 units for 2016. At the third place was Tesla’s Model X, which recorded 18,028 sales, with December sales being about 3,300 units. This clearly shows the strength that Tesla has, regardless of having higher prices for its vehicles in comparison to other models. Ford’s Fusion Energi took the fourth place with its yearly sales totaling 15,938 units. Nissan Leaf recorded 14,006 sales. Overall cumulative figures show that Chevy Volt is at the top with a total of 113,489 units. These units are close to 10,000 more compared to the Leaf, with both cars introduced in 2010. Currently, there are 17 plug-in hybrid and 13 battery electric cars sold in the United States. This is in comparison to hybrid electric cars, which are 33. The year 2016 also saw remarkable sales in conventional crossovers, SUVs, and trucks.

Lucid Motors unveiled its much anticipated electric vehicle with a projected range of more than 400 miles. The car’s acceleration is also high, and it intends to exceed any model that Tesla plans to offer. The luxury sedan in question will give the experience of a luxury jet. Additionally, it will ooze an air of sophistication and elegance, considering its state-of-the-art self-driving capabilities, aircraft-style seating, and high-resolution computer displays. The company hopes that production will start in 2018 at Arizona’s $700 million factory. The pricing will be comparable to that of Tesla Model S. Its 1000 horsepower electric car variant will have a starting price of about $100,000. Next in line will be an electric vehicle with a retail price of $65,000.

Lucid comprises of 300 employees, as the core team aims to improve on the key features present in Tesla’s Model X or S. It also plans to emphasize on creating an interior that is more traditionally luxurious compared to Tesla’s minimalist style. Chief Technical Officer of Lucid, Peter Rawlinson, was previously the lead engineer in Tesla’s Model S development. Derek Jenkins, the design’s vice president was formerly the leader of Mazda’s design center in North America. We are yet to see how this automaker will keep up with the strong competition from Tesla, which is better-established. It will also be forced to battle electric cars having a range of 200-300 miles from major automakers.

The Lucid Air will set a new standard on the performance of the luxury electric vehicles. For instance, it will have a unique two-seat design that allows the seats to recline up to fifty-five degrees. It will also have air suspension design allowing the inversion of the normal engineering to bring the springs nearer to the wheels. Many design themes will also incorporate natural materials, such as textured woven and leather fabrics. Other notable features are 29-speaker audio systems, optional glass and active noise cancellation. The car will also have focused microphones for passengers to use the car’s language voice system. This feature will improve the accuracy of infotainment and navigation requests in the same way as Apple’s Siri.

Recently, the company made an announcement of its collaboration with Samsung’s SDI to produce battery cells with high-power density and energy. The Director of Lucid’s battery technology, Albert Liu, said that Lucid Air will utilize battery cells that offer resilience when charging at high-speeds so as to reduce loss of energy capacity over the car’s lifetime.

Toyota Starts a New Electric-Vehicle Project

Toyota Motor Corporation is trying to follow the footsteps of Tesla Motors, Nissan Motor and General Motors in the development of electric cars. Toyota is well-known for the production of hybrid cars that utilize traditional engines, and it has been skeptical of delving into the fully electric car market. Instead, it has been investing in researching on hydrogen fuel-cells. The automaker’s president, Akio Toyoda, who was in charge of branding the luxury division of Lexus, will oversee the newly set-up electric car Department of Business, planning alongside other executives. The push for electric cars follows Toyota’s president’s move to increase autonomous car research.

A one million dollar investment has been made on the project with several employees hired in Silicon Valley. Toyota, which is the largest car maker globally in terms of profit and sales, has substantial financial resources to utilize in future projects. Meanwhile, Volkswagen AG, its primary competitor has settlement costs and fines amounting to billions of dollars in relation to cheating on emissions tests in the United States. Mr. Toyoda, who is the grandson of the automaker’s founder, has plans of manufacturing cars that can drive themselves by the year 2020. However, Toyota has a likelihood of engineering vehicles that require driver engagement in the operation process.

While the pioneering work of Google on autonomous cars has resulted in a great investment in driverless-car research, electric-car research is also making progress. It is essential for automakers to react to the current regulatory and emission pressures that are overshadowing the lack of demand for battery cars such as BMW i3 and Nissan Leaf. Although Toyota has been focusing more on fuel cells, the automaker seemed to be interested in joining the electric car market many years ago. Toyota started by investing in Tesla in 2010 before launching the Model S electric car sedan. Toyota made an agreement with Tesla to purchase batteries from Tesla, a deal which ended following disagreements between Toyota and Elon Musk.

Toyota still has plans of selling thirty thousand fuel-celled cars per year by 2020, which will coincide with Tokyo’s Summer Olympics. But there are some challenges currently faced. For instance, there have been delays in constructing hydrogen refueling stations, especially in California. This has hampered the sales of Mirai’s fuel-cell car. Recently, Toyota announced that it had plans of setting up a unit for building a battery-powered vehicle that will be marketed quickly. This move has come at a time when the Prius hybrid car sales have been declining in the United States.

Motor Trend Awards Chevrolet Bolt the Car of the Year Title

This is the first time a fully electric car has won the prestigious award. The ceremony marked the beginning of the yearly LA Auto Show held in Los Angeles. The award was received by the Electric Vehicle Chief of General Motors, Pam Fletcher, and Alan Batey, the North American Toyota president. Other finalists acknowledged during the 2017 awards include Cadillac CT6, Audi A4, Jaguar XE, Genesis G90, Chrysler Pacifica, Tesla’s Model S 60/75, Volvo S90 and Porsche 91.

Motor Trend recognized the Bolt because of a number of features offered by the model. One of the key aspects is the car’s EPA rating that has been confirmed to be 238 miles/charge. This is close to triple the range offered by the majority of pure electric cars currently on the market, with the exception of Tesla’s Model X and Model S. These two models have longer ranges, however, Model 3, which isn’t set to hit the market for a year, and will be considerably more expensive than the Bolt. The Bolt was also recognized because of its low retail price, considering its good range. Its base price is $37,495 excluding a federal tax credit of $7,500, as well as the numerous state incentives available, bringing the drive off cost to an affordable $30,000 or less.

Even if the Bolt did not have a battery propulsion system giving a long range, it would still be a great contender for the award. This is according to the jury of Motor Trend, which claims that this world-class small vehicle offers quietness, smoothness, and an electric motor that offers an instant-on torque. Similar awards to be held in North America named the Bolt as one of the three finalists. Trophies for the award in question will be given in January. An award organized by Green Car Journal named 2017 Bolt Green Car of the Year. Hence, Chevy Bolt is clearly a new winning entrant.

General Motors has made it a priority to produce electric cars having more than 200 miles in range. Consumers are looking forward to the day Chevy will allow ordering via its numerous dealers. There are some cool facts that buyers and other interested parties need to know about the 2017 version of the Chevy Bolt. The range of this model will be 238 miles. This is a combination of both highway and city driving with a battery capacity of 60-kWh. This battery size is similar to that of the base Tesla’s S Model. This is a big change from Nissan’s first 2011 Leaf that had a range of 73 miles with a battery capacity of 24-kWh. Nissan then increased the range in 2013 by 11 miles and in 2016 by 23 miles, giving the Chevy Bolt a decided advantage.

Another cool thing about the Chevy Bolt is its stupendous energy efficiency. The General Motors engineers earlier this year said that their powertrain was highly efficient. This week, further information revealed that the approximate EPA ratings are 110 and 128 for city driving. The Chevrolet Bolt claims to be the best model in terms of a highway MPGe of all the electric vehicles with a range of more than 81 miles. Its major competitor is BMW’s i3 with a battery capacity of 22-Kwh and 111 MPGe. The highway rating of this model lowers to 106. The Bolt’s range may be surpassed by Model S, which has superior aerodynamics particularly at a higher speed.

Chevrolet Bolt for 2017 also has respectable performance and speed. Although a Prius may seem a gas guzzler at city or suburban driving, the Bolt can handle the road in a satisfactory manner. Furthermore, its acceleration, especially from a stoplight is spritely. It can jump from zero to 30 mph in about 2.9 seconds with its single-speed transmission, 294-pounds-feet motor, and 200 horsepower. It has been reported that the Bolt can jump from zero to 60 mph within 6.5 seconds while its passing power speed at 50-75 mph is 4.5 seconds.  With the highest speed being 91 mph, it seems that GM’s emphasized the car’s legal performance, translating to the utilizable get-up-and-go power. Electric Car Sales Increase Strongly in August

According to the August report, the sales of electric cars were higher compared to the previous year. The report indicates that last month a total of 14,882 electric vehicles were sold in U.S. This figure was close to six thousand more compared to last year the same month. In terms of percentage, the increase was 66 percent. This is a clear indication that people are beginning to incline to electric and green cars.

The electric car sales in the Unites States are still lower than expectations. However, the trend line shows the start of an exponential growth. Since their inception, a total of 93,197 plugin vehicles have been purchased. This figure is 29 percent more in comparison to last year’s numbers. Tesla’s Model S, the most costly electric vehicle in the United States market topped the sales chart. Approximately 3,125 cars were sold last month. Contrary to other car manufacturers, Tesla doesn’t give information concerning its monthly sales figures. Additionally, it does not give sales reports by region.

Coming second is the 2nd generation Chevrolet Volt with a total of 2,081 vehicles delivered. Ford’s Energi Fusion came third with a total of 1, 422 vehicles sold. The actual star in the latest report given by Inside EVs is BMW’s X5 xDrive with approximately 876 vehicles delivered in August. This BMW model came as a shock just behind the Nissan Leaf by a few hundred. Other notable electric cars that appeared in the report include Chevy Spark electric vehicle, Volkswagen e-Golf, Hyundai’s Sonata plug-in, Porsche Cayenne, Kia Soul electric vehicle, and many more. BMW 740e and Mercedes C350e were last on the list. The message seems to imply that consumers are thirsty for plug-in SUVs. Although this was clear about a year ago, the industry has taken quite some time to respond to customer demands.

There are quite a good number of new electric vehicles yet to be produced. Luckily, we are beginning to witness the move from conventional gasoline powered vehicles to electric cars. Consumers are beginning to shift their focus on environment friendly vehicles such as electrified ones. Once there has been full adoption, the increase rate should be geometric rather than arithmetic. This rate of increase has to follow this trend if at all electric vehicles will play a key role in reducing the rate of carbon dioxide or greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation industry.

July’s Plug-in Electric Vehicle Sales: Volt Triumphs

The milestone in question is the delivery of the 100,000th Chevy Volt. Volt became the first plug-in model to hit the 100,000th mark. The automaker celebrated this achievement with some fanfare and a press release. Both Nissan Leaf and Chevy Volt were officially put on sale in late 2010, and for the most of five years, the Leaf surpassed the Volt in terms of total sales.

The second-generation Chevy Volt plug-in has been a well-received car and emerged the winner in 2016 Green Car Reports on the best cars to purchase. It topped the Leaf and has continued to flourish for ten consecutive months. In July, the sales of Volts reached 2,406, one of its best months since 2014 August. The total units sold for the seven months in 2016 are 12,214 and since 2010 December the grand total sales amount to 100,964. On the other hand, the Nissan Leaf made deliveries amounting to 1,063.

Since its launch, the Leaf has sold 96,447 units, implying that if it continues with the same pace it would cross the one hundred thousand line in October. Tesla’s Model S emerged as the third ranked selling electric vehicle in the Unites States. However, its manufacturer didn’t give details of the monthly sales. The quarterly sales breakdown details are also not available. The fourth-best is Toyota’s Prius plug-in with sales total exceeding 42,300. This plug-in car’s replacement is Prius Prime, scheduled to officially enter the market at the end of this year.

In the plug-in hybrid sector, Ford recorded the highest sales with its Energi versions. The Fusion and C-Max Energi have recorded higher sales compared to Nissan for several months. Contrary to the usual pattern, the sales of Fusion Energi dropped to 1,341 units, while those of C-Max were 755 deliveries. Both of the cars collectively recorded total sales amounting to 2,096. Ford and Chevy seem to have exchanged the lead with respect to plug-in vehicle sales this year for some time. Nissan has lagged behind.

BMW’s i3, planned for an update in 2017 recorded remarkable sales amounting to 1,479 units. This marked the highest sales in a month since July last year. Since its launch in the United States, i3 has sold 21,475 units. Volkswagen’s e-Golf made deliveries of 344 units in July, with a total of 1,799 units for seven months. Lower-volume cars include Mitsubishi’s i-MiEV and Mercedes’ 250e.

Unfortunately, consumers are still reluctant to buy electric car offerings because the prices of gas have remained fairly low. With the exception of Tesla’s Model S, the sales of electric car have gone down by eleven percent in 2016’s first half. Limited charging stations and range issues are the major demerits for electric car ownership. Despite the mentioned drawbacks, there are planned developments that would totally change the situation for the better.

One of the key developments is a federal initiative. The Transportation Department made an announcement about its plan to use about $4.5 billion to guarantee loans to create fast-charging stations across the nation. The plan also includes the creation of an automakers’ coalition, as well as the utilities to oversee this effort. This will allow for the incorporation of both local and state governments.
