2010 Prius Recalls FAQ’s

1. What is the problem with the 2010 Prius?

The anti-lock brake system (ABS) in the 2010 model-year Prius, in normal operation, engages and disengages rapidly (many times per second) as the control system senses and reacts to tire slippage. Some owners have reported experiencing inconsistent brake feel during slow and steady application of the brakes on rough or slick road surfaces when the anti-lock brake system (ABS) is activated in an effort to maintain tire traction.

2. How is Toyota responding to this Prius issue?

Toyota has responded to owner concerns with a running production change for the 2010 Prius that was introduced last month, improving the ABS system’s response time, as well as the system’s overall sensitivity to tire slippage.

The recall will allow Toyota dealers to perform this software update in the anti-lock brake systems of 2010 Prius vehicles sold prior to this production change.

3. Why does this only impact 2010 Prius models?

First- and second-generation Prius vehicles use a different ABS system and are not involved in this campaign.

4. How many vehicles are impacted?

This recall involves approximately 133,000 2010 model year Prius vehicles.

5. What should 2010 Prius customers do if they experience this braking issue?

If a Prius owner were to experience this condition, pressing hard on the brake pedal will stop the vehicle safely.

6. Are these vehicles safe to drive until they get their update?

The vehicles are safe to drive because pressing hard on the brake pedal will stop the vehicle.

7. When can I get my vehicle fixed?

Toyota will begin sending letters to Prius owners included in this recall by mail next week to let them know when to bring their vehicles into a dealership. Owners will only receive a letter if their vehicle is involved in the recall.

8. How long will it take for a dealer to repair my vehicle?

The software update should only take approximately 30 minutes to install, depending on technician workflow.

9. Is the repair covered by warranty? Will drivers have to pay any money out of pocket for this work?

Toyota will cover all repair costs associated with this work.

10. Is this recall related to the ongoing Toyota recalls associated with sudden unintended acceleration?

No, this recall is unrelated to the ongoing recall of Toyota vehicles for sticking gas pedals and floor mat entrapment issues.

Ford Fusion VS. Toyota Camry – And the Winner is…..

Car and Driver recently held a competition between various hybrid makes and models, which calculated scores in numerous categories. These included (but weren’t limited to) driver and passenger comfort, trunk space, fuel economy, steering feel, and styling. While the competition proved to be close, Ford Fusion ultimately beat the Toyota Camry and other hybrid competitors. The results were so close, in fact, that mere opinions could have altered the ultimate result. It is for this reason that I will present some of those opinions and help you to make your own decision.

If you are looking for a smooth and effortless drive, the Camry is a great place to start. This hybrid is quiet and unrushed. The interior is comfortably spacious, and the ride is soft and easy. This car will surely get you where you want to go with nothing but ease and comfort, and you will feel as though you are slipping through the mainstream cars quietly and unnoticed. The Camry also has many upgrades for the 2010 model including six speeds instead of five, a restyled grille and tail lights as well as optional satellite radio and automatic windows.

Driving the Fusion, however, if often compared to playing a video game. It is known for being a fun and informative hybrid, as well as for having the ability to drive on solely the battery when moving at or under 47 miles an hour. The Fusion has incomparable features and amenities, as well as top of the line fuel economy stats. It is a powerful hybrid with many bonus quirks and settings. Upgrades to the 2010 Fusion will include an improved chrome grill as well as a more powerful engine and a quieter cabin.

Of course, our store is already loaded with accessories and necessities for both of these hybrids. We offer all weather floor liners to cargo mats and side window deflectors. But, you should probably pick out a car before you go shopping and accessorizing for it, right? So, which car is better for you? I would recommend test-driving both of them (in order to help make a better decision, only, of course).

These WeatherTech All Weather Floor Mats have deeply sculpted channels designed to trap water, road salt, mud and sand.  They won’t curl, crack or harden in sub-zero weather. Replacement Mats for Toyota Prius All Weather Mats

On Tuesday Toyota issued a safety advisory on all weather mats for the 2004-2009 Prius. Toyota said it will recall some 3.8 million vehicles, including the Toyota Prius. They stated there is a risk factor these floor mats could keep the accelerator pedal forced down. They also recently included the 2010 Prius in this advisory and have stopped selling all weather mats for these cars.

This creates an urgent need for replacement mat for the Prius All Weather Mats and we are recommending the following solutions:

2004 – 2009 Prius Weathertech Floor Liner

One of the best solutions is the WeatherTech floor liners. These floor mats accurately and completely line the interior carpet of a Prius giving absolute interior protection.  An advanced surfacing creates channels that carry fluids and debris to a lower reservoir with further channeling to help minimize fluid movement while driving. They also come in 3 color choices to match your vehicles interior. These are your best protection.

Exact Mats for 2004-2009 and 2010 Prius

Another good solution is from Exact Mats. These are vinyl that is the clearest in the industry and uses 100% Clear Vinyl.  They use a high-tech cutting process allowing replication of the exact factory specified dimensions for the Prius. They are currently also the only manufacturer who has a replacement all weather mat for the 2010 Prius. Great product !

Hybrid Hot Rods Inspire New Breed Of Gearheads

From Autopia:

A growing number of Steve McGreens are souping up their gas-electric hybrids to make them go faster and handle better, while delivering stellar fuel economy. It isn’t just gearheads busting their knuckles, either. A lot of the hybrid hackers are tech geeks whose innovations may well appear in the cars we’ll buy tomorrow.

“The gearhead of today has evolved. People today want performance and fuel economy,” Paul Goldman, the 46-year-old CEO of the hot-rod hybrid shop Juiced Hybrid, tells Wired.com. He sells more than 500 items ranging from suspension kits and chassis stiffeners to body kits and floor mats. Most of his customers are “educated people who care about the environment” and modify their cars “because they’re tech savvy, not necessarily because they’re car savvy.”
