Toyota Prius Hybrid Bike Rack and Reciever Hitch
March 26, 2010
Today it is sunny, but the morning air is
still cool and crisp. There is not a cloud in the sky, and sounds of birds chirping fill the office. Soon, I will be hitting the road for a weekend camping trip, and hopefully some of you reading this will be doing the same! Let’s get into the real nuts and bolts of what it takes to go on a weekend trip when you want to take your bicycle with you and your Toyota Prius.
First, you should know that it is not recommended to haul more than two bikes on a Toyota Prius, because it gets too heavy. JuicedHybrid.com offers numerous bike racks to choose between that will be a perfect fit and weight for your car.
Today, I would like to discuss our top two selling bicycle racks for the Toyota Prius Hybrid. The Hollywood Racks Commuter Bike Rack for the 2004-2010 Toyota Prius Hybrid can attach to either a 1 1/4” or a 2” receiver hitch (so, if you wanted to attach it to your smaller Prius receiver hitch this week, and your heavy duty Toyota Highlander Hybrid receiver hitch next week, you can!). It comes with a few additional security measures, such as an extra tie down strap, a ‘no wobble’ receiver hitch pin, and also has rubber cradles so your bikes are protected from being scratched on the less pamperin
g hauls. Lastly, it folds up to be nice and small for easy storage.
A similar bike rack is the Thule Roadmate for the 2004-2010 Toyota Prius. This foldable bicycle rack carries up to 2 bikes as well. Possibly our best selling bike rack, the Roadmate is sure to provide you with safety and convenience on all of your road adventures. The “Hitch Switch” dual quick-release levers on this bicycle rack allow for rapid r
ear vehicle access, which is an absolute luxury!
These two bike racks, however, and many others of the most popular bike racks for any kind of vehicle, require a receiver hitch. The receiver hitch is a separate product that physically attaches the bike rack itself to the vehicle. Receiver hitches can be used to attach numerous things such as bike racks, ski racks, and trailers of all shapes and sizes. Curt Manufacturing has already equipped their inventory with a custom fit receiver hitch for the 2010 Toyota Prius Hybrid. It has a 1 1/4” opening and a no-drill installation that takes 15-30 minutes, depending on your experience.
Now that you have been given the 411 on how to take your bike with you, I suggest that you hurry and make your purchase before summer comes and goes in the blink of an eye! Join myself, and thousands of others, on the road t
his weekend and for the next coming months. With weather this beautiful you can’t help but give yourself, your Toyota Prius, and your bike a well deserved treat!
Please Note- JuicedHybrid.com has bike rack and receiver hitch options available for the second generation Toyota Prius Hybrid as well. Click here to see them.

This rack by Thule is a lifesaver. Like all other Thule bike racks, it’s easy to use and operate. Great quality and I feel very secure with my bikes on it. Nice of you to mention this excellent bicycle hitch rack here!

Have you ever wondered who posts some of this stuff that you come across? The internet never used to be like that, recently though it has turned around. What do you think?
